William Housty

William Housty’s Heiltsuk name is Dúqva̓ísḷa, which he received from his late grandfather, George Housty, in 2005. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Management, and a deep immersion in Heiltsuk culture. Having many great teachers throughout his lifetime, William gained invaluable knowledge in Heiltsuk song, language, story, and names, and has supported his community in feasts and potlatches throughout his lifetime.

Growing up on the land and waters in Bella Bella, William has long had a keen interest and strong will to protect and take care of his peoples’ territory. William works with the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD). which is focused on preserving the many resources of the Heiltsuk people.
